Omar Being Patient
Posted by Gregg Hopps
Very nice article in today's Daily News by Anthony McCarron. It seems that after yesterday's Jason Bay press conference, Omar the Great was asked about other areas of the Mets they need improvement.
On catching, according to McCarron, Omar praised by Omir Santos and Josh Thole. Quoting Minaya: "We have catchers right now, can we upgrade? Yes. Do we have to? I don't feel we have to..." It goes on from there. This is the first clue I've heard that there was a chance Thole would make the big club. I was under the impression Thole would start the season in the minors, while Santos and Henry Blanco. Would the Mets break camp with three catchers? Interesting.
The Mets are also looking to see if Carlos Delgado would make an inexpensive return, but if not Omar the Great seems to be happy with Daniel Murphy at first. Also Omar is excited about Ike Davis, who played very well in the Arizona Fall League (as reported here on the Seven Train).
On the pitching front Omar praised his current staff, but added "I'd like to be able to get a pitcher."
Very nice article by Anthony McCarron and it gives us idea of what Omar the Great is thinking.

I don't think Minaya said that he is satisfied with the roster. I think he said more along the lines that he wants to keep on improving the roster.
I don't think Omar is an idiot, in fact that's a very strong term to use. I fact I didn't even say he was an idiot. I just don't think Omar the Great is the right GM for this team right now.
