Mets Explore a Possible Pedro Return

Posted by Steve Sidoti

Update:

Brian Costa of The Star-Ledger says via Twitter, that a Mets official has denied the ESPN report saying that the team has looked into bringing back Pedro Martinez. Costa adds that they did contact Pedro's agent, but it was regarding Bengie Molina, another client.

Original Post:

According to ESPN’s Jayson Stark, the Mets have discussed bringing back Pedro Martinez, but his price tag at the moment appears to be more than the team is interested in guaranteeing.

Stark says that an official of one club informed ESPN.com that "he wants more than Brad Penny got" from the Cardinals, which was a 1-year deal worth $7.5 million plus incentives.

The 38-year old Martinez was 5-1 with a 3.63 ERA in 9 starts for the Phillies last season.

With Jason Marquis agreeing to a 2-year, $15 million deal with the Nationals today, Stark writes that the Mets continue to focus from a group that includes Joel Pinerio, Doug Davis and Jon Garland.
