Why are the Mets Going After Injury-Prone Guys?
Posted by Matt Pignataro

Jayson Stark of ESPN.com thinks the Mets have expressed interest in 1B Nick Johnson.
I love Nick Johnson's glove and patient bat, but he's been placed on the DL five times since 2005.
Adam Rubin of the Daily News writes that Mets could trade for the A's Jack Cust.
Cust is a born DH and a poor defender. He's got Richie Sexson syndrome, where it's either a bomb or a strikeout. The Mets don't need a person who averages 191 strikeouts the last two seasons. I don't see where and how Cust fits into this team.
Rubin also wrote yesterday that the Mets could trade for Royals OF Jose Guillen, if they fall out of the Matt Holliday or Jason Bay sweepstakes. The Mets could swap Angel Pagan for Guillen.
I'm not a fan of Guillen at all. He's a cancer that brings a poor attitude into the clubhouse, which the Mets clearly don't need. Guillen has played for 10 MLB teams. If that doesn't say something about is character than I don't what does. Plus, he can never stay healthy.
Why are the Mets going after injury-prone guys this off season? Did they not learn from last season's disaster? They had an estimated $88 million payroll just on the disabled list alone. I understand you need to have back up plans and look at every option, but could the Mets at least eliminate the guys who can't stay healthy. They need to be looking at guys who can play over 130+ games and aren't prone to injury.
